I hope you are doing well. This semester I will be working with the Multicultural Recruitment Committee (MRC) at Columbia. The MRC is a group of volunteer students, like myself, who work with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions so that they may aid in the recruitment of a diverse first year class from groups that have been historically underrepresented. I am excited to start working with them because it also aligns to another organization that I will be working with on campus called Matriculate.

Matriculate is a non-profit organization that attempts to help talented high-achieving low income high school students apply to competitive institutions of higher education. Many of these students miss the opportunity to be admitted into such institutions simply because they do not apply for a plethora of reasons. My role as a Matriculate Advising Fellow will be to guide students from all across the United States navigate through all the steps of the college admissions process.

I hope to learn as much as I can through my involvement and immersion in both of these organizations as well as be able to help students like myself. For 2017, I aim to not only help these amazing students but also help myself grow as a person and challenge myself academically. Furthermore, I hope to expand my professional network, something that Adam has helped me do. Adam and the rest of the ALB staff have continuously supported me through my transition and acclimation into the rigorous and competitive environment that Columbia is, constantly giving me words of advice, support, and guidance.
